Site Investigation and Foundation Engineering

The first condition for a safe and economical structure is a correct description of the ground. We derive design parameters from field and laboratory data, size the foundation system by considering structural loads and ground behaviour together, and design improvement solutions where the ground is inadequate in terms of bearing capacity, settlement or liquefaction.

Site investigation and ground studies

Planning of borehole, in-situ and laboratory testing programmes appropriate to the project scale; interpretation of the results to establish the soil profile and design parameters. Preparation of ground and foundation investigation reports and geotechnical interpretative reports.

Bearing capacity and settlement calculations for shallow and deep foundations; design of raft, piled raft and bored pile foundation systems. Assessment of the foundation system together with structural and ground conditions for bridges, viaducts, buildings and facilities.

Selection and design of suitable ground improvement methods against insufficient bearing capacity, excessive settlement or liquefaction risk; verification by calculation of the performance of ground improved by deep soil mixing (DSM), jet grouting and similar methods.
